“O Lord, You have searched me and known me.
You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.” -Psalm 139:1-4
Yesterday we went to the beautiful village of East Meon. With its quaint houses, clear streams and beautiful church set against the backdrop of high, lush green hills it is easy to wish I could live in such an idyllic setting…. But even surrounded by such charm and quintessential English beauty, I know deep down entertaining thoughts of a prettier looking life here would only lead to a vain emptiness. That is because we were created primarily to have fellowship with God, to walk with Him in the beauty of His holiness. That means we can have the fullness of joy that comes with being in His presence even if we are in the darkest, dingiest, ugliest place on earth.
The above verses from Psalm 139 really spoke to me today. There is no-one like the Lord who can know us, understand us and who can give us value. His heart is longing for us to spend time with Him and to realise that in walking with Him we will be truly satisfied and able to enjoy His blessings in the way He intended.
If you feel an emptiness, dissatisfaction with life or like there is no-one who really understands I just wanted to encourage you to meditate on Psalm 139 and know your purpose. I’d love to hear your thoughts 💜
